What the Kolkata works is
Two things, in one place on Andul Road: the office the company is run from, and the shop where its equipment is built.
The equipment is the older half of the business. KIGL’s acetylene plants were the first indigenously manufactured acetylene gas plant in India, and the design work behind them — carried out by the second generation of the family, who sat on the BIS committees that standardised this equipment — is still what the current plants descend from. The drawings and the fabrication have stayed on Andul Road throughout.

- Acetylene gas plants — carbide-to-water generators, purification, drying and compression, sized in Nm³/h against a real duty.
- PSA oxygen and nitrogen plants — on-site generation where a cylinder supply chain does not make sense.
- Industrial and medical gas pipelines — reticulated supply from a central source to every point of use.
- Flashback arrestors — the safety device that stops a flame travelling back up a hose to the cylinder.
- Flame arrestors — quenching elements for vents, headers and pipeline take-offs.
- Safety valves — pressure relief, set and tested to the duty of the vessel or line they protect.
Equipment travels; gas has a radius
Cylinder gas and gas equipment are different businesses with different geography, and it is worth knowing which one you are ringing about.
A plant is crated and shipped and it goes wherever it is going — across India, and to Indonesia, Malaysia and the Gulf, all of which KIGL equipment has gone to. The commissioning engineer travels with it. Nothing about the equipment side is limited by how far Kolkata is from your site.
